In middle and high school today, encountering diversity is inevitable; however, teen girls take being different to a whole other level. Throughout my years of being bullied, it was girls who targeted me and made life miserable.

Keeping Fit: Body, Mind, Soul

Being on tour is one of the quickest ways a person can become conceited, fat, and spiritually weak. That’s a bold statement, but think about it: Artists play shows for fans who want to meet them, have many opportunities to eat terrible food, have little time to exercise, and are often traveling on Sunday mornings. When artists go on tour, their guard has to be up!

Anthem Lights is made up of four very different individuals, each with his own unique personality and thought processes. What’s amazing about being in this group is that because of our differences, we are skilled at different things. Something I’m not good at may be a strength for another member of the band.

Spring fever has hit Nashville. I’m sitting outside Starbucks enjoying the patio for the first time in three months, and it feels good. I’m sure we’ll get another cold snap in the next week or so, but everybody can feel that spring is officially on its way.

Finding Home

I don’t know about you, but “home base” has always been a huge part of my life. How I enjoy returning home to my things and to my bed at the end of the day or after a long trip. (maybe I’m also territorial?) Something deeply rooted in me clicks “on” when I’m back in my space. It’s best described as a warming contentedness—a peace of mind.

Knock, knock. It’s God! No joke.

Finding Your Calling

There can be tremendous pressure on all of us in all different stages of life to “find our calling.” Within the church, this usually means trying to figure out what God’s will is for our lives. I can remember at the end of high school being overwhelmed by this task. It seemed as if the next big step of choosing a college and declaring a major would determine THE REST OF MY LIFE! And the decision would be forever!

What Is the Church? (part 2)

When I was thinking of writing about the many things that I could say or that I feel about the church, I decided to reach out to a few of my friends. I asked them questions about their views and experiences within the church. One of my favorite responses included the idea of the church being a place you can go—no matter where you are—and find that you belong.

At first, I was excited about trying to answer this enormous question: What is the church? But when I sat down to write, I was overwhelmed. There are so many things to say, so many sides to the story, so many perspectives. Answering this question isn’t an easy task, especially in this time of new technologies, satellite campuses, online services, and other changes.

Stand Up for the Champions

Before the World Cup started, I predicted not only that Spain was going to win it all but that they would also outplay every opponent they faced. My prediction was based not only on their previous performances (Spain won the last European Cup) but also on the showing of FC Barcelona, a Spanish club that provides the core of the Spanish side. Of course, I also assumed that the tournament was going to be a “walk in the park” for Spain.
